Why are the elements of Design important?
Right. The elements of art are important for several reasons. First, and most importantly, a person can't create art without utilizing at least a few of them. No elements, no art, end of story. And we wouldn't even be talking about any of this, would we?
Secondly, knowing what the elements of art are enables us to (1) describe what an artist has done, (2) analyze what is going on in a particular piece and (3) communicate our thoughts and findings using a common language

What are the elements of Design?

In Design you've got line, shape, form, space, texture, value and color. Artists manipulate these elements, mix them in with principles of design and compose a piece of art. Not every work has every last one of these elements contained within it, but there are always at least two present.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?

This tutorial will teach you how to create a simple zoom in & zoom out animation with fade-in and fade-out effect in Flash. You can use this zooming effect on any image or text.
STEPS TO FOLLOW
Open a new flash file (Ctrl+N). The New Document window will appear. Select General panel and choose Type: Flash Document. Press OK.
If your timeline window is not open, press (Ctrl+Alt+T). Now you can see a single Layer called "Layer1" in your timeline Window.
Select the first frame. Import a background image onto stage, preferably an image of a street by clicking on File>Import>Import to Stage, or just press (Ctrl+R).
Press F8, to convert this image to a symbol. Name this Symbol "background_gr" and choose graphic behavior. Press OK. Name this Layer "bg". On the 35th frame press F6 to insert a new frame
Select the second layer. Import an image or create a shape of a car using shape tools from the tool box. Press F8, to convert this image to a symbol. Name this Symbol "car1_m" and choose movie clip (F8). Press OK. Name this Layer "car1".
Select the image(car1_m) >right click>edit in place. Now you will come to a new timeline Window called Symbol2
On Frame1 of Symbol2 convert the image to a graphic (car1_gr). Go to the Properties Bar>Color>Alpha>0%. In Frame5 insert a new Key frame (Press F6) and change Alpha to 100% and make the image small. Eg : Pic
Right click in between Frame1 and Frame5 and press motion tween.
Add one more Key Frame in Frame20. In this frame make the Image(car1_gr)bigger and move it out. eg:
On Frame25 insert a new key frame and change Alpha to 0% . Insert motion tween in between frame5-20 and Frame20-25. eg:
Now press (Ctrl+Enter) to view your motion tween.
Continue to do this for your other car images.
Remember to insert only ONE symbol/image in ONE new Layer only.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a Zoom In/Zoom Out animation with Fade In and Fade Out effect!

AGD Advanced Graphic Design

Preparing artwork for you t-shirt is an important step. You don't need to be a professional artist to enter the screen printing field. Many people have started successful businesses even though they could barely draw stick figures. This tutorial will show you how to prepare artwork for a two-color t-shirt. Artwork can be prepared in many different computer programs. Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop are two popular programs used by screen printers.
A two-color shirt requires two separate screens that must be predpared. The tutorial below will show you how to prepare the artwork needed to burn into each screen.
The Image

The image on the left is the design we will put on the t-shirt. This design has two colors, red and black.
Color #1 - Black

In order to print multiple-colors on t-shirts, your artwork must be separated into the different colors. We need to separate the red and black parts of the image.
The four bulls eyes on the left are actually "registration" marks. These are used to line up your multi-color jobs on the silk screen machine. This will ensure that your images print where they are supposed to when they are printed on the t-shirt.
This image would be printed off on transparency or vellum. We are now finished with this color. It's time for the next color.
Color #2 - Red

The next color to be printed is black. This is done the same way as the first color. The registration marks are also on this image.
This image would also be printed on transparency or vellum. Two separate images make one multi-color image.
The artwork is now ready to be burnt into the screen.

Our finished t-shirt will look something like the one at the top of this blog.

GDP Grpahic Design Production

An animated GIF file comprises a number of images or frames to be displayed successively, each described by its own GCE (Graphic Control Extension), preceded by a header whose content by default applies to all the frames. Students will create an animated GIF, going from storyboard concept to finsished product.

GRAPHIC ARTS LABORATORY GUIDELINES/AGREEMENT

I will follow all rules as outlined by the Student/Parent Handbook.

1. I will keep my cell phone at home or put away at all times!

2. I will come to class prepared with pen, paper and be ready to learn.

3. I will assemble in the instructional area and take my assigned seat on time.

4. I will stop talking when the bell rings, and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.

Writing the rules for your game

A good rulebook should be structured along these lines:

· Number of players, age

· Aim of the game / short description of its spirit

· Preparation

· Course of the game, i.e. actual rules

· End of the game / victory conditions

· Strategy tips (if needed)

· Game examples (if needed)

· Special rules for other numbers of players (if needed)

· Game variants (warning: do not exceed)

Each section must have a title. Use only short and clear statements. Don’t try to use a complex or intricate style. An image is worth more than a thousand words: using an illustration could save you a lot of words. When writing to a game publisher, anything that is not directly connected to the game (e.g. a list of all the accessories needed, technical suggestions on how to realize the game) should be clearly kept separated from the rulebook, and sent enclosed. The best choice is to list all the components needed to play right before the actual rules.

Writing rules deals with resolving a didactical problem. Your goal is to make people who don’t know the game understand its content and how to play after reading once through the rulebook. If necessary, readers should be able to explain correctly the rules to other players. Last but not least, they have to be able to identify clearly which rule or section of the manual to refer to in case any doubt arises.

First, write a rough draft for the rules of your game. Be sure to include all of the sections listed above in the first part of the text. Use illustrations where possible. We have been doing grammar practice as warm up activities, so use what you have learned to write concise, grammatically correct sentences.

5 Obscure Monopoly Trivia Facts

Here's some Monopoly trivia I found that I simply had to share.

Based on probability, the most commonly landed on Monopoly square (not counting Jail) is Illinois Avenue. It's followed by Go, New York Avenue, B&O Railroad, Reading Railroad and Tennessee Avenue.

The reasons for most of those is a mix between dice probabilities and where Chance cards send you. (When you leave jail, odds are you'll hit one of the orange properties. From there, you’re most likely to hit Illinois or B&O. And everything sends you toward Go.)
The least-likely square you'll land on is Mediterranean Avenue. Just above that are Baltic Avenue, Luxury Tax, Park Place and Oriental Avenue.

For a lot of those, the probabilities are low because of the Go To Jail square... for example, it’s seven spots from Park Place, meaning you can’t roll a seven (the most common possible roll) and end up there.
There's no such place as Marvin Gardens. There’s an area in Atlantic City called Marven Gardens.

Apparently, it was misspelled on the first prototype of the game and never got fixed.
In classic Monopoly (none of these new, inflation-oriented editions), the bank contains $15,140.
Only two of the four railroads in the game were actually accurate when the game debuted in the 1930s. The B&O Railroad never served Atlantic City, and there's no such thing as the Short Line Railroad. (AC used to have a streetcar service called the Shore Fast Line and was served by a railroad called the Seashore Lines, so the name was probably inspired by one of those.)

Did you ever wonder where you came from? If you don’t know, you’re going to find out! You will be researching and creating a digital composite about your cultural heritage. We will take several days to work on this in class.

Getting Started

1. Ask your parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles (whoever would know) what your ethnicity is. Where did they come from? Where did their parents come from? What country, continent, etc. You will probably have 2 or more countries of origin. For this assignment, you will choose one to research. Be sure to pick the most interesting one!

2. After you choose your country, research it. We will go to the library to find books; you will also receive computer time in class. (If your research involves anything not appropriate or pertaining to this project, you will be docked points.) You need to find a great deal of information about your country. Following the worksheet will help. Be sure to keep track of the websites you use. By this, I mean the websites you have information from. You will not be able to just write down a site that you maybe visited or came across—you have to have information from it. You need to have at least five sources, and two of them must be books.

3. Fill out the worksheet provided. This will be a good tool to help you keep track of information

4. Starting your composite

Include: Symbols, customs, food, dress, people and so on.

5. Be sure to create interesting contrasts with the elements of your composite.

GDP Screen Printing

Description

Screen printing has been used for centuries and although there have been many improvements with the technology, the process still consists of forcing ink through a stencil covered fabric or wire mesh which has been mounted in a sturdy frame. The ink goes through only the open areas of the stencil and is deposited onto a printing surface positioned below the frame. Screen printing is very versatile and it is often the only printing process capable of handling certain applications.

The equipment costs for screen printing are lower than other printing processes, but the rate of production is usually slower. Manual screen printing can be accomplished with only a few simple items: a sturdy frame, screen fabric, stencils, squeegees, and ink. Automatic press equipment is available which greatly speeds up the process, but it is no match for the output delivered by press equipment used for other print processes.

Applications

Screen printing can be performed on almost any type of material including paper, glass, fabric, plastic, wood, and metal. Products as varied as signs, posters, circuit boards, mugs, clothing, and soft drink bottles can be printed using the process. Screen printing is very useful when an image needs to be wrapped around an object or when images need to be printed onto oddly shaped manufactured objects.

Screen Fabrics

Fabrics for screen printing are selected because of several properties. One type of fabric may be suitable for one application and not another. Fabrics are classified according to the following properties:

Filament refers to the type of thread that makes up the fabric. The thread can be multifilament or monofilament of which monofilament provides the best quality. The multifilament threads produce images with more jagged edges than the monofilament thread, but they are not as expensive as monofilament.
Mesh Count is the number of threads per linear inch. A higher mesh count produces finer details and higher quality in the product.
Strength is determined by the diameter of the thread. A larger thread diameter will provide greater strength to the fabrics, but the print quality will decrease.
Weave Patterns for screen printing fabrics are based on three types: plain, which can be used for most applications, gauze, which is selected for long runs because of its strength, and twill, which is chosen for its low cost and when quality is not an issue.

Most fabrics used for screens are made from one of the following materials:

Silk used to be the most common fabric because of its durability, but it is not used as much today because other fabrics, especially synthetics, have proven to be as good or better and are less expensive.
Organdy is inexpensive and is good for short and medium runs.
Nylon is the most durable fabric (synthetic or natural). It is a good choice for print applications involving convex or concave surfaces
Polyester is widely used for its durability and versatility.
Metal Mesh is made of stainless steel, copper, bronze, or brass and is used when plastic substrates are printed with heated inks.

Stencil Types

Knife cut stencils are created with manual cutting and can be paper, water soluble, or lacquer soluble.

Paper: Stencils cut from paper are used for basic designs and short runs.
Water Soluble: Water soluble gelatin is cut away from the plastic base of the stencil. The cut away portions of the gelatin represent the image areas. The plastic base and remaining gelatin are placed on the screen material and water is used to adhere the gelatin layer to the screen. The plastic base can then be peeled off from the gelatin layer which remains adhered to the screen fabric.
Lacquer Soluble: A lacquer soluble stencil is used much the same way as the water soluble stencil except that the stencil is adhered to the screen material with lacquer solvents.

Photographic stencils are made of photosensitive materials and require the use of film positives for exposure. There are three types of photographic stencils: indirect, direct, and direct/indirect.

Indirect: An indirect stencil is a photographic stencil which is produced independent of the screen fabric and is applied to the screen after exposure.
Direct: A direct stencil is one in which the photosensitive material is applied to the screening fabric so that after exposure, the stencil becomes part of the fabric. It is very durable and is useful for long runs.
Direct/Indirect: A direct/indirect stencil is a combination of the two stencil types. It lasts longer than an indirect stencil, but it cannot match its quality.

Ink

There is a wide variety of inks available for use with screen printing. The ink for some applications may need to be resistant to ultra-violet light or they may need to be scratch, fade, or chemical resistant for other applications. Most of the inks for screen printing are applied with a heavy coverage so the ink layer takes a long time to dry. The printed products can be air dried on racks if the number of printed pieces is small, but most often a heat source is used to speed up the drying, especially if the screen printing is performed with higher speed, automatic equipment.

Press Types

Most large volume screen printing is performed on automatic printing equipment which makes the process much more efficient and cost effective. Manual screen printing is still used for many of the smaller runs or for specialized applications. The basic press types are listed below:

Flatbed: A flatbed press is used for printing on flat substrates.
Flatbed Cylinder: A flatbed cylinder press is much like a letterpress flatbed cylinder press and is used for longer runs of flat applications.

Cylinder: A cylinder press is used for printing on round or oval objects.
Textile: T-shirts and other clothing items are printed on a textile press.
Precision Flatbed: One of the major uses for the precision flatbed press is circuit board printing.
Rotary: Higher production rates are a benefit of the rotary presses. The ink is pumped into the printing cylinder and a squeegee on the inside of the cylinder controls the flow of the ink.
