Week of 10-27-14 to 10-31-14

MONDAY:
Standards:

GDP 7- Explore different outlets for the proposed product and sketch an idea for the design

  • Typographic principles through layout and design (CTAE Show)
  • Marketing research for similar designs
  • Explore possible combinations of type and image

GDP-8 Follow ethical guidelines and copyright laws.

Use individual student results to tailor instruction to cover material not already mastered. (Activator)
Name Game (Warmup)
Work Session:
   1. Identify and review the unit vocabulary. Terms may be posted on word wall.

2.     Interest approach – Mental set
        
Students will be given a product.  Students will be asked
to identify the styles of type used and their effectiveness.  Discuss their conclusions.

        
3.     Identify package designs

         Students will be asked to collect 5 examples of the six different styles of packages.  Provide old magazines and newspapers and have the students glue the examples on paper, identifying each type style and package design.

3.  Print the attachments Product Design  for each student.  This activity uses Adobe Illustrator (or other page layout software) to help students understand the different typestyles.  This activity is a great way to introduce students to the page layout software and to get them working on the computer early in the course.
